Port louis drainage study

The analysis included interconnected rural and urban catchments, covering a total area of 9km2. The hydraulic design process included 1D non-uniform flow modeling of three main watercourses, namely the Signal Mountain cutoff drain, the Pouce stream, the Ruisseau des Creoles stream and their feeding drains, corresponding to a total length of 6.3km, including the evaluation of the hydraulic performance of five supercritical flow junctions, sixteen bridges and two covered sections, of around 0.8km. Moreover, it included the proposal of appropriate engineering works to alleviate flooding problems at Place d’ Armes and the investigation of potential flood peak attenuation measures at the upstream (rural and semi-urban) parts of the catchments. Among the proposed solutions was the reconstruction of insufficient bridges and culverts, the increase of the hydraulic capacity of the streams, the construction of a flood detention pond and the design of new drainage works in specific areas.
