Prof. Michael J. Kavvadas

Professor Emeritus, National Technical University of Athens

Michael (Mike) Kavvadas is Emeritus Professor of Civil Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece. He graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering of NTUA in 1977, and then obtained a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA) in 1982. He served in the Geotechnical Department of NTUA since 1987, reaching the rank of Professor, until his retirement in 2021. In addition to his extensive academic research experience (including three books and over 250 research publications), he has over 40 years consulting experience in large geotechnical projects (including dams, landslides, foundations of infrastructures, tunneling, marine works, mining, etc.) in Greece and other countries in Europe (Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Kosovo, Albania), the Americas (Argentina, Brazil), Africa (Egypt, Morocco, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Mauritius), Asia (Armenia, Indonesia, Singapore), and the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrein, UAE, Kuwait, Iraq).

Since 2005, he is collaborating with Z&A as geotechnical expert in all geotechnical aspects of Z&A projects.
