Consulting services for the detailed design of idalion dam in yialias river

The objective of this contract was the detailed design of Idalion Dam and all associated structures, near the village of Kotsiati in Nicosia province. The dam was planned to be constructed at Kotsiatis (Yialias) river in the form of a mixed barrier consisting of a concrete gravity dam, of 17.30 m height on the left embankment and an earthfill dam on the right embankment. The technical data of the detailed design study are:1) Catchment area: 74.50 km², 2) Reservoir capacity: 530,000 m³, height (from foundation level): 17.30 m, 3) Spillway Maximum Capacity: 645 m³/s. During the feasibility phase, a large number of alternatives was examined with and without the use of fuse gates and for different crest elevations. The cost for each alternative was also a critical factor in order to decide the optimum solution. The contract scope included the hydrology analysis of the catchment.
