The project aims at integrated water resources management of the area of interest and the development of the appropriate management tools. It is elaborated in order to assist the Ministry of Development in the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60). The project includes the following: a. Collection of all the relevant environmental, hydrological and hydro geological information, b. Development of an integrated database and the presentation of all the relevant data in maps (GIS),c. Recording of all activities related to water use d. Use of simulation software (MIKE BASIN & MIKE SHE), e. Water demand assessments and management,f. Analysis of developing projects in the greater area and determination of current and future needs g. Development of a management model and its application to the specific River Basin District, h. Gathering of economic information related to developing activities in the area,i. Development and evaluation of an Economic Model, j. Development and evaluation of transboundary river basin development projects for Aoos and Drinos rivers along the borders with Albania, k. Dissemination actions: workshops, training courses, internet site, documentation, manuals and capacity building, awareness creation, education courses and training on water saving methods.
