The scope of the project is the management of the water resources of the Nestos River catchment. The target is to transfer and distribute irrigation water using the available surface waters and protect the underground resources. The WRM study collected all the available water data to establish the water balance of Nestos river catchment and determine the available quantities for irrigation, hydropower generation and environmental flow requirements. The feasibility study involved a total area of more than 100,000 ha and included also the feasibility design of four dams. Following the above proposals, the Ministry assigned the preliminary design of the water supply and distribution network for the irrigation of Xanthi plain from Nestos river. The total length of the water supply system was approximately 155 km with diameters from D2000 to D400. The area under study was approximately 30,500 ha. Following the preliminary design for the total network of the Xanthi plain irrigation scheme, the Ministry assigned the detailed design of the water supply system for the irrigation of approximately 5,730 ha. The distribution network was also designed.
The scope of the project is the management of the ground water in the valleys of Ksanthi and Komotini by using the water from Nestos River. All required quantities for irrigation, hydropower and environmental flow were estimated. The feasibility study involved a total area of 100,000 ha, 30,000ha in Ksanthi and included also the feasibility design of four dams. The preliminary and the detailed design of the water supply and distribution network for the irrigation of Xanthi plain covered 5,730 ha.
