The scope of these studies were the preliminary engineering design of three Hydroelectric Power Projects (HPP), with small, 10 m high dams on rivers Lousios and Alfios, and on river Trikeriotis, in West Greece. The catchment area of Trikeriotis at Geroborou bridge was 436.20 km². In order to assure a safe operation and guaranteed energy production for the HPP, a “Tyrolean type” water intake was inevitably recommended. The project was designed with partially or totally visible (surface) works (intake structure, settling basin and forebay tank, by-pass channel, power house and draft tubes) and underground works (power tunnel and surge tank and penstock). The Alfios HPP project is located west of Karytena village and consisted of water intake structures, power tunnel, surge tank, penstock and power station, all of them situated on the left river bank. The Lousios project powerhouse is located 5,5 km SW of the village of Stemnitsa (Hypsous) along the secondary road from Vytina to Karytena and consisted of water intake structures, power tunnel, surge tank, penstock and power station.
