The industrial area (IA) of Kozani town is located about 6.5 km east of the town. The extent of the studied area was about 71 ha and the average elevation was at +670 m. The total study included: (a) preliminary and detailed design of main and access roads of the IA, (b) preliminary and detailed design of water supply network of the IA, (c) preliminary and detailed design of the sewerage and storm networks of the IA and (d) preliminary design of the WWTP installation. The design of the above networks was followed by redesign of local or regional urban planning on existing or new infrastructure facilities of the project’s area. Sewerage network was designed by separating the total study area into four (4) zones (sections) and the PVC pipes designed in lengths 127 m for D700, 137 m for D800, 185 m for D1000 and 379 m for D1200. Secondary sewerage network was designed with PVC pipes, series 41 and diameter D500. WWTP installation was implemented at the boundaries of the south side of the IA and designed to accommodate the higher organic strength and solids content in the water.

Z&A as a partner of W.S. ATKINS INTERNATIONAL was involved in various hydraulic issues arising from the dam’s construction at Evinos River in West Greece such as checking contractor’s studies, consulting over various construction issues, etc. Works started in 1992 with the construction of the diversion tunnel and ended in July 2002 and launched the first filling of the reservoir of the Dam, which was completed in October 2002. The dam was designed to supply (through a 29.4 km tunnel) the reservoir of the Mornos Dam Reservoir of Athens and consists of an internal clay core, downstream gravel filters in order to prevent leakages and protective large stone bed in upstream side. Z&A was responsible for the review of all the Hydraulic detailed designs, submitted by the Contractor and also provided to the on site team, the Resident Engineer, the Chief Hydraulic and Structural Engineer.

EYDAP implemented a leakage level assessment and detection project for the water distribution network of Athens (with population of over 3,800,000 inhabitants). The overall project consisted of 12 parallel pilot projects in selected parts of the water supply distribution network of Athens. This pilot project for leakage control on the water supply system of Athens covered the areas of Glyfada, Argyroypoli, Elliniko, Voyla and Vari covering about 225 km of pipes. Total project was separated in two phases: INITIAL PHASE: The pilot project area initial field survey covered for map updating and appurtenance operational condition assessment and repair. Also: i. Water quality upgrade works, ii. Hydraulic model development, iii. Consumption data evaluation iv. Zone and sub-zone boundary proposal with BoQ or needed works including new pipes and valves, permanent and portable flow and pressure equipment installation works. SECOND PHASE (LEAKAGE DETECTION AND WATER QUALITY): i. Night pressure test to verify the water tightness of the delineated zone boundaries, ii. Sub-zone minimum night flow measurement and leakage flow rate estimation, iii. Active leakage control activities in the sub-zones with the higher leakage rate (using sounding and acoustic correlation components), iv. Water quality field survey to verify the effectiveness of the relative proposed works.

The study dealt with the main pipes for the wastewater transport system covering the whole of Messiniakos Gulf from Koroni to Kitries villages. Two treatment plants were proposed, the rehabilitation of the existing in Kalamata, and a new-one in Koroni village. The study was extended to cover all villages at the interior of Messiniakos Gulf that would be served by the two treatment plants. A number of alternative solutions examined in order to propose the most technicallly and financially appropriate. The alternative design studied different locations for the WWTP installation and a number of pumping stations.

This study was about the rehabilitation of the existing irrigation network system of Polyfytos Dam ,about 2,5 thousands hectares, in the north area of the dam’s lake, the reformation of the irrigation networks, the installation of a pumping station by the lake, transferring the water to a tank nearby and a second station, pumping the water to the main irrigation tank with a volume of about 40,000 m³. Especially for the pumping station abstracting the water from the lake, a number of alternatives were examined at a feasibility phase and included a floatable P/S, a permanent one inside the lake and a permanent one by the lake shore. The later was the proposed and accepted by the Client.

The study deals with the development of a complete remote measuring system of the external water supply network of Kalamata area and the detail description of the remote management automation system and remote control of networks, water reservoirs and pumping stations of the join water network of Messina, the surrounding communities and the city of Kalamata. It proposed the installation of flow and pressure measuring stations at all junctions and with wireless system data transmission to the control center of the wastewater treatment plant. It also involved proposals for the system’s extension of the distribution network with the installation of a fixed leakage control system It also included the study of the Sanitation Network that consisted of the detail description of the remote management automation system for the sewerage network, the pumping stations, the main collector pipe and the Waste Water Treatment Plant. In the sewerage network, three (3) local control stations, TSEA type, were installed for the monitoring of the daily consumption of pumping stations A5, A6 and A10. With the whole remote system installed, the sanitation network was satisfactorily observed.
