The diverse terrain crossed by the Egnatia Motorway together with the special environmental conditions encountered imposed the construction (provision for) 73 twin-bore road tunnels of an overall combined length of 100km (measured as single carriageway) measured at 50km of single carriageway. Veneticos tunnel was a 700 m long double bored tunnel lying immediate afterwards the Veneticos Bridge. The hydraulic design included the following: (a) surface road drainage and (b) drainage system to prevent flooding from upstream catchment areas along with the design of the necessary hydraulic structures (ditches, culverts, etc).

This study concerned the re-evaluation of the detailed design study of the water drainage system at the part of the national motorway from Ag. Tehodoroi junction to Almiros junction. Z&A carried out all the final hydraulic study of water drainage system for the construction of Patra – Athens – Thessalonica – Evzonoi motorway at Ag. Theodoroi – Almyros section, including the interchanges. The need of Final Hydraulic Study resulted from the revision of Final Road Study during construction and the changes that occurred in the layout and hypsometric mapping of the motorway and the service roads. The hydraulic design included the following: (a) water drainage system of the motorway and the service roads (b) drainage system to prevent flooding from upstream catchment areas along with the design of the necessary hydraulic structures (ditches, culverts, etc).

The vertical axis Siatista – Ieropigi / Krystallopigi is part of the Trans-European Transport Network. It links Pogradec – Cafasan – Durres in the south of Albania and it is part of Pan-European Corridor VIII. It is being constructed as a dual carriageway with two traffic lanes and a hard shoulder per direction. The contract objective was the hydraulic design of the Koromilia – Ieropigi part with a length of 21 km. It involved the road surface drainage system and the flooding protection system from upstream catchment areas. Fourty three (43) culverts were designed for this last purpose.

The contract objective was the rehabilitation of five (5) irrigation networks of Pineios and Alfios rivers area (approximately 6,000.00 hectares), restructuring the irrigation supply networks, replacing and extending the distribution network along with the rehabilitation of the electrical engineering installations, the development of a scada system for the pumping stations and the environmental studies. For the needs of the design, a sophisticated hydraulic software was developed in house to implement the “Labye” method in an existing network and propose the most cost effective solution for the network rehabilitation. The project was implemented and the Consultant supported the Client during the construction.

Kozani is a city in Northern Greece with a population of 80.000 people. The project started with the development of a full GIS System of the entire network. The study included a description of the external and internal network system of the city and studied the method of identifying leaks from the existing data with the Service. A hydraulic network simulation model was developed, using the software EPANET2. The area was separated into 22 pressure zones and flow and pressure meters were installed. Field measurements were executed for the calibration of the model. A full telemetry and SCADA system was installed. With the use of the model and the measurements the most critical zones were defined. Site leak detection followed and covered about 30% of the total area. Training of the local staff of the client was done during the campaign. The GIS system and the hydraulic model were both connected with the SCADA system and all the information were transferred on real time basis to the Water Supply Authority’s headquarters.
